The Erik and Ember Show Episode 6: James and Penny from VOICE 2010

Obviously hundreds of you are going to VOICE 2010 because you heard that I will be presenting there.  Completely understandable.  However, after talking with our friends and VOICE head-honchos James Alburger and Penny Abshire (looking adorable in that picture over there)1, it turns out there are other things planned for the conference as well!  Who knew?

Listen in as September and I grill them about the origins of VOICE, why you should go, why it’s worth the money and how much you will suck if you don’t go.  It was really quite an illuminating chat.  Actually, it’s mostly Penny and Ember saying intelligent things while James and I made fart noises with our armpits, but it’s still a must-listen for anyone attending or anyone still on the fence (hint: do it).

Clickety click on the player to the right to get the full scoop, check it out on our News page or download it to your portable computerized audio listening device through iTunes.2 Your choice, I cant keep making these decisions for you anymore.

1. Trivia fact, they killed a man in a botched robbery attempt hours after it was taken.
2. For those of you keeping score at home, I get extra points for all the links in this post.

The Erik And Ember Show Episode Five: Harlan Hogan

Well, it’s that time of every-few-months once again and so we have a brand new Erik and Ember Show patiently waiting to beat on your undeserving eardrums.  This time around we chat with the Fresh Prince of voiceover, Mr. Harlan Hogan (pictured above with his mew microphone) about two exciting new products he has to offer: the new and improved Porta-Booth and a brand new mic, dubbed the VO:1-A Harlan Hogan Signature Series microphone that he has produced in cooperation with the folks at MXL (already available HERE).  Very cool stuff indeed.  Check out the player to the right to listen in and be sure to show him your love in the comments section of this post.

The Erik and Ember Show Episode Four: Billy Serow

Well we were finally able to get some phone time with New York super-agent Billy Serow and bothered him with some of your questions.  He was so impressed with them that he decided to sign all of you who wrote in on the spot.  You should be expecting a phone call from him any minute now.  I’m kidding of course, he scoffed indignantly at most of them but I edited those parts out so if you just close your eyes and listen it sounds as though he was touched.

Actually, he could not have been nicer and gave some pretty helpful insights from the other side of the glass.  Seriously guys, grab one of your crayons and write this stuff down because it is gold.1 Can you imagine actually learning a thing or two from this ridiculous show?  I’m just as surprised as the rest of you.  I think I have to go lay down now.

Clickety-click on the player over there to the right or subscribe with iTunes to hear all the agenty goodness for yourself.

We are still kind of screwing around with the audio on these things because Skype kind of sucks but we are at a loss as to what else to use.  Ember and Billy sound pretty good on this one although for some reason I sound like I’m at the bottom of a well.  Really though, what do you guys want for free?

1. The advice, not the crayon dummy.

Your Chance To Harass a Big Time Fancy Pants Voiceover Talent Agent

Looking to get the inside scoop on what makes voiceover agents tick?  Want to know why they haven’t returned your calls?  Do they really listen to all those CDs you have been sending in over the years?  Is it true they feast on the blood of the innocent and will only sign talent who have given their souls to Satan?1

The next guest on The Erik And Ember Show will be hotshot talent agent Billy Serow from Abrams Artists Agency in New York which, for those who may not know, is a particularly prestigious rep to have in these parts and many a young talent have tear stained pillow cases from staying up late dreaming about walking into their gleaming offices.

The question asking thingy over on the right (under the podcast player) has been reopened for the occasion so here is your chance to suggest your question and Ember and I will in turn ask Mr. Serow.  Got it?  Good.  Use this opportunity wisely young ones.  If your question is particularly stupid feel free to submit it anonymously to avoid bringing shame to your family.

1. This is true but I doubt he’ll admit it.

The Erik And Ember Show Episode Three: Ann DeWig

It’s time once again to settle into your favorite armchair, pour yourself a nice snifter of brandy and enjoy the wonder that is The Erik and Ember Show.  Our guest this time around is the incredibly talented movie theater voice talent and Super Bowl promo girl Ann DeWig.  She does some other stuff too but they escape me at the moment.  Said Ann of appearing on the show, “Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for finally getting me the international exposure I so crave.  You are both truly the most remarkable asset this industry has.  God bless you for your tireless work and creativity.”1

Listen in to the heartfelt and courageous tale of how, as a young breakdancer desperately trying to save her father’s arcade, she has a chance encounter with a talking robot who thinks he is a real boy and together with their woodland creature pals Whiskers and Be-Bop they finally discover the true meaning of friendship and what it takes to be a voiceover artist.

Will she ultimately find love with a dashing young podcast host?  Tune in to the player over on the right or check out the show on iTunes to find out!2

1. Or something like that.
2. SPOILER ALERT: She does, but unfortunately for me it was with Ember.  I wish you both happiness together.

The Erik and Ember Show Episode Two: Heather Halley

Aaaaaand were back.

My new girlfriend Grammy girl Heather Halley took a break from being generally awesome to have a chat with us about the nature of the universe.  Clickity click the player over on the right for the goods.  Super special thanks to Heather for being our guest and putting up with our shenanigans.  To learn more about Heather pop on over to heatherhalley.com and luxuriate in her greatness.</gush>

Our next guest will be Super Bowl promo voice Ann DeWig.  Be sure to leave your questions for her under the player then squeal with delight as we mention your name on the show like a bona fide internet superhero.  Also, be sure to leave your comments for Heather here and perhaps she will take the time to read them.  Try not to embarrass yourself.

The audio on the podcast still sounds like ass but we are working on it.  Anyone who is upset about it will be given a full refund.1

It Takes A Village

We are pleased to announce that our next guest on The Erik and Ember Show will be the lovely and talented Heather Halley.  Heather just wrapped up her gig announcing at the Grammy Awards and said she would love to come on the show to share her story. Because we are too lazy and stupid to come up with our own questions we want to give our listeners a chance to get involved, we have a new feature here at the blog.

Please direct your attention to the new question asking widget thingy underneath the podcast player to the right.  If you have a question you would like us to ask her during her interview (and it’s not completely asinine) then type it in over there for your big break into the glamorous world of podcast stardom.1 All of your questions will also appear in the new page conveniently linked to in the title bar up top.  This feature will be reset for each new guest.  You’re welcome.

1. We are sooo Web 2.0

The Erik and Ember Show Episode One: Joan Baker

Awww yeah boy, the long wait is finally over.  Prepare yourself to be dazzled by the most informative and entertaining podcast the world of voiceover podcasting has seen in quite some time!1

While Ember and I alone easily have enough personality to keep you riveted for hours, it certainly didn’t hurt that our very first guest is my number one voice crush, the lovely and talented voice talent, coach and author Joan Baker.  We had a blast talking shop with her and she was kind enough to give us some background on her incredible career and dropped some pearls of wisdom for those of you still building up your business.  All of you should be humbled and thank her profusely.  What a great talent.

Oh, and by the way, she is also a stone cold fox:

Hubba Hubba.2

The show runs a little long but only because it is so jam packed with voiceovery goodness that I couldn’t bring myself to cut any more of it.  Check it out on the groovy new podcast player3 over on the sidebar, get it from iTunes by clicking the button underneath or subscribe to the rss feed.  Be sure to share your love with Joan in the comments, just keep your paws to yourself.

I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that the awesome Dave DeAndrea is our announcer and he produced the intro, outro, and stingers as well.  I think we can all agree that they rock.  Find him at Dave DeAndrea.com and give him all of your money.

In case you are interested our theme song is “Tuco” by one of my favorite bands, Keelhaul.

1. I have to learn how to write more enticing copy.
2. I have a thing for chicks who bend their right arm.  I’m a freak like that.
3. It kind of sucks actually.  If anyone knows of a better looking one please enlighten me.

Big Important News!

No, not really but that is one hell of a headline.

After chatting with some of my blog-o-buddies, including the undisputed heavyweight champ of VO blogging Bob Souer, I have decided that the RSS feed will be changed to a Feedburner feed.  It’s an RSS/SEO/ROI thing, you wouldn’t understand.1 If you are one of the teeming throngs of readers who use the existing feed please check back next week when it is updated to get the new one as I don’t believe this one will work anymore.  I’m not really sure.  Give me a break, I’m new at this.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but really, it is a small price to pay to continue enjoying such unadulterated genius.

Our thanks to everyone who comes around here and extra special love to the commenters.  It’s adorable how you try to keep up.

The Erik and Ember Show is coming soon as well.2 It really is going to be amazing so I can understand your excitement.  We hope to have it fully armed and operational this month.  In the meantime feel free to enjoy the ongoing hilarity.

Humbly yours,
Erik
