Time To Come Out Of The Closet

This is a pretty neat new product from Primacoustic called the FlexiBooth.  It is due out in the next month or so for about 400 bucks and it might be a nice alternative for some of the moving blankets on the wall or recording in the linen closet folks out there.1 From the product description:

The FlexiBooth is a unique device that can instantly turn any room into a highly functional vocal booth by simply opening the doors! Built like a cupboard, the FlexiVoice hangs on a wall and opens wide to create a large 48″ x 48″ recording area that is both very quiet and does not suffer from the usual small room bumps in the lower mid range. Inside, deep 2″ high-density fibreglass panels fill the back while low-profile 1″ panels line the doors. These combine to effectively absorb sound energy throughout the voice range. This makes the FlexiVoice ideal for voice over, vocal tracking and pod casting.

Personally, I would like to have the doors be a little bigger and I can’t really see when you would close the thing once you have your mic positioned in there but it certainly doesn’t seem to suck overall,2 especially if you have a quiet room to hang it in. If you are interested, you can check out Mr. Excitement in the Oscar nominated video HERE.  (Let me know if the link doesn’t work for ya.)

1. You know who you are.
2. I’m a “glass is half full” kind of guy.

He Comes From The Land Down Under

As part of our ongoing takeover of the entire planet1 Voice Talent Productions is proud to announce the recent acquisition of Australian talent Matt Cowlrick.  Matt has done work for Shell, Blockbuster Video, the Australian Comedy Network and he voices Billy Boogie and Sammy Surfboard in the upcoming Aussie cartoon The Beach Crew.  Hopefully this will quell any rumors that we do not wish to work with the Australians.  I’m not sure how that got started.  We do however maintain a strict policy against Slovenians.2 Speaking of rumors, you may have read in the tabloids that I am dating Anne Hathaway.  While this is true, we ask that you respect our privacy at this time and simply be happy for us.  We are regular people just like you.3

Where was I?  Oh yeah, Matt.  This guy is outrageously talented, as evidenced by his demos below.

When not sounding amazing Matt enjoys wrestling crocodiles, drinking Fosters Lager and referring to the bathroom as a “dunny”, which is really quite charming in a rustic sort of way if you think about it.

1. It’s Manifest Destiny, as fortold in the prophesy.
2. I had a terrible experience last summer in Ljubljana.  I don’t want to talk about it.
3. Only much, much more attractive.

My New CDs Are In

My new demo CDs came in today (photo proof at left)1 and they look and sound pretty darn good.  There are a thousand places that print up CDs but most of them wont do runs of under 500 which is just overkill for our purposes.  By the time I went through that many they would have to be updated or I would die of old age.  Of course, most clients or agents are fine with emailing demos but some places still require actual discs2 so I found a place that does runs of just 100 and I am quite pleased so I wanted to share.  The company is called Disk Faktory but if you go through the super secret Guitar Center link here you get a deal and they charge only 200 bucks for 100 with all the art, a nice printed CD (none of that sticker BS), mastering, jewel cases and everything.  Just upload your tracks and the artwork and they do the rest.  They took about two and a half weeks to get here but I had them ship via UPS from California so that wasn’t too bad either.

Anyway, I vouch for these guys so if you are in the market then go for it.3

ps. I just happened to be wearing that shirt today but if you want to look as good as me4 then click the “Shop” link up top.

1. For the ladies.
2. Disks?
3. Man, I am so good to you guys.
4. From the neck down anyway.

I Get The Best Email

When I’m not busy as the chairman of my local MENSA chapter and stay-at-home bartender, I spend hours going through the ungodly amount of email that comes in around here.  Aside form the usual Nigerian scams and penis enlargement pills,1 I get about 10 or 15 emails per week from people looking to join our roster or with similar business offers.  I thought you might enjoy it if I shared just a few recent highlights.  Names and addresses have been omitted but they are otherwise unedited.  If you sent any of these just remember, we’re laughing with you not at you.2

I really do love cartoons like the flinstones, the simpsons and I feel like I could be as successful of a voice of a cartoon character such as fred flinston, and homer simpson with the voice which I always bring out from in front of a mirror or on a microphone I’ve been on the radio indiana 105 with my unique voices that I love and love to hear.

Big Important News!

No, not really but that is one hell of a headline.

After chatting with some of my blog-o-buddies, including the undisputed heavyweight champ of VO blogging Bob Souer, I have decided that the RSS feed will be changed to a Feedburner feed.  It’s an RSS/SEO/ROI thing, you wouldn’t understand.1 If you are one of the teeming throngs of readers who use the existing feed please check back next week when it is updated to get the new one as I don’t believe this one will work anymore.  I’m not really sure.  Give me a break, I’m new at this.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but really, it is a small price to pay to continue enjoying such unadulterated genius.

Our thanks to everyone who comes around here and extra special love to the commenters.  It’s adorable how you try to keep up.

The Erik and Ember Show is coming soon as well.2 It really is going to be amazing so I can understand your excitement.  We hope to have it fully armed and operational this month.  In the meantime feel free to enjoy the ongoing hilarity.

Humbly yours,
Erik

BIG IMPORTANT UPDATE: The new feeds are now available and the old ones are kaput.  You can also subscribe to new posts or comments via email by clicking the links over on the right.

1. WTF?  OMG!  LOL!
2. For reals.

Jessica Wachsman Has It Together

When I’m not busy leading the life of an international playboy and C.I.A operative,1 I like to keep my finger on the pulse of the voice industry.2 Fortunately I seem to get a metric buttload of newsletters keeping me abreast of the latest from other talent.  Occasionally one comes along from a really stellar voice and wearer of cute hats so I feel the need to share.  Voice talent Jess Wachsman, who has worked for Microsoft, Old Navy, Cartoon Network, Pizza Hut, Samsung and a slew of others has one of the best newsletters I’ve seen.  Great branding, links to her fantastic demos (a sample below), a professional layout, the works.  She carries it all over to her website at www.jessicasvoices.com as well.  Really a fantastic presentation.  Be sure to click the link from a sentence or two ago and check it out.

Once you are done moping and hanging your head in shame afterward, get on the ball and improve your own marketing if needed.  Also, be sure to contact her at jess@jessicasvoices.com and ask to be put on her mailing list so you can be reminded monthly how it’s done.  Mention this blog to receive a discount on her emails.

While I’m at it, my buddy Caryn Clark (who is no slouch at branding and presentation herself) has recommended GoDaddy’s mass mailing service as an alternative to the ubiquitous Constant Contact.  I checked it out and it seems pretty cool.3

You could always start a blog too but that would just be stupid.
